The $199 Shield, which runs on a new Nvidia chip and Android software from Google Inc.GOOGL -0.86%, was introduced Tuesday night along with an online service that the company plans to operate to stream videogames to the new console.
Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia’s chief executive, said a key goal of the effort was to bring sophisticated videogames and other entertainment to a much wider audience than the people who now buy conventional consoles and costly gaming PCs.
