They’re leaving smaller, independent competitors like Meerkat behind. In early May, Meerkat reported it had two million total users. Now, data from App Annie, which provides mobile analytics, shows a widening gulf between Periscope and Meerkat. Periscope was the ninth most popular social-networking app in the App Store earlier this week. On the same day, Meerkat came in at 316th. The two apps’ positioning on the Google GOOGL +0.10% Play store also showed a wide gap.
