Starz readies OTT service

Starz lost about 200,000 subscribers in the third quarter — a state of affairs that it blamed on “merger-related distractions” for its distributors, which include AT&T-DirecTV, and Charter and Time Warner Cable, who are awaiting regulatory approval for their cable TV mega-merger. Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said on the Q3 earnings call that going OTT will give the network “opportunities to distribute our content beyond the traditional cable bundle, tapping into the unmet demand we are seeing for our content, while at the same time still cultivating our core business with MVPDs”.
