Disney chief executive Bob Iger, whose global media empire includes TV giants ABC and ESPN, has plenty of reasons to defend traditional television in an age when viewers continue to trim or get rid of their cable bill. But on Thursday, Iger instead explained why viewers keep running from the way TV has always been watched — and why the world’s largest entertainment giant is seeing more promise in streaming video directly to viewers on the Web.
