The pay TV model is in significant decline; content owners need to go OTT to thrive

U.K.-based researcher Ampere Analysis acknowledges that pay TV continues to gain ground globally, but maintains that most subscription growth is in low-income non-Western markets. In the third quarter of 2015, Ampere said pay-TV subscriptions declined in 15 countries, down from 23 in Q2. But, the researcher said, those decline were in countries with strong, established pay-TV players, like in North America and Western Europe.
